Eight Miles of New Border Wall Construction Underway in Texas

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials announced the construction start of eight miles of a new border wall barrier system in the nation’s busiest sector. The construction project covers eight miles of the Rio Grande border where no barrier currently exists.

Skeletal Remains of Migrants Found on Ranches near Texas Border

Brooks County Sheriff’s Office deputies recovered the skeletal remains of two deceased migrants on ranches surrounding the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint. These ranches are located about 80 miles from the border in known human smuggling corridors intended to move migrants around the checkpoint. So far this year, officials recovered the bodies of 39 migrants in Brooks County alone.

Contracts Awarded for 65 Miles of New Texas Border Walls

Federal officials announced the awarding of approximately 65 miles of new walls along the Texas Border. Officials reported the new wall is not funded under President Donald Trump’s National Emergency Declaration or any other Department of Defense funding.

A Brooks County Sheriff’s Office deputy faced the gruesome task of recovering the half-eaten remains of a migrant who died on a Texas ranch about 80 miles from the Mexican border. The migrant is the 36th to have lost his life attempting to circumvent the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 281.
