Pentagon Unsure If Kurds Allegedly Armed By U.S. Will Attack ISIS in Raqqa

The United States is currently unsure if Kurdish People’s Protection Unit (YPG) fighters, who have reportedly received nearly 50 tons of ammunition funded by American taxpayers, will participate in the U.S. operation to retake Raqqa, the de facto Syrian capital of the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL), according to the Pentagon.

Syrian Arab Fighters Complain Kurds Have Taken U.S. Ammo

A dispute has arisen in Syria over the disposition of a fifty-ton ammunition shipment from the United States, supposedly intended for Syrian Arab rebel groups. The munitions were instead taken by the Kurdish YPG militia, according to both Arab and Kurdish commanders, although the Pentagon officially insists the shipment reached its intended recipients.

In May, a U.S. special operations mission in Syria killed one of the top money men for ISIS, Abu Sayyaf, and captured his wife Umm Sayyaf. It would have been great to take Abu Sayyaf alive, but it was known at the time that his wife was also a high-value target, and subsequent interrogations have proven her to be a major asset. In fact, Nancy Youssef at the Daily Beast judges Umm Sayyaf to be “the richest human intelligence source to fall into U.S. hands to date.”

Kurds Overtake ISIS Base, Eye Terror Group’s Syria HQ

Kurdish forces have successfully defeated Islamic State terrorists in a late Tuesday battle near the jihadi group’s headquarters in Raqqa, Syria. The Kurdish troops’s latest victory comes on the heels of a successful mission last week that saw its YPG-led forces capture a Turkish border town from ISIS, according to reports.
