Pakistan Passes Law Against Honor Killings, Child Rape

The legislature of Pakistan has passed a law that prevents the families of victims of “honor” killings from forgiving the killers, previously undoing a legal loophole that has allowed many murderers to go free. The law also makes it illegal to rape minors or disabled individuals, and makes DNA testing in rape cases mandatory.

Allah Ditta, 24, was stabbed repeatedly before five men cut off his arms, lips, and nose, leaving him to bleed to death in Dera Ghazi Khan district, Pakistan. Ditta had allegedly had “an affair” with a woman who wished to elope with him but was forced by family to remain with her husband.
