Hong Kong police fired both tear gas and live rounds at protesters on Monday. One of the protesters was hit in the chest or abdomen by a live bullet fired at point-blank range by a uniformed police officer, resulting in immediate public outrage and even more energetic protests.

Iraqi Protester Set Fire to Lawmaker’s House

Iraqi protesters burned down the home of Zainab Khazraji, a member of the Iraqi parliament, on Tuesday night. Local media reports said there was no apparent reason for targeting Khazraji and no political message was sent along with the vandalism.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s turbulent tenure apparently came to an end on Tuesday with his second resignation. His first was delivered, and then retracted, during a memorable episode in November 2017 when he was more-or-less kidnapped by the Saudi Arabian monarchy and forced out of office. This time Hariri resigned to thunderous cheers on the streets of Lebanon, so it looks like he is gone for good.

Hong Kong Police Fire Tear Gas at People Protesting Tear Gas

Residents of the Hong Kong district of Tuen Mun on Monday held a demonstration outside police headquarters to protest weird odors emanating from the facility and making people sick. The odors were thought to be a product of tear gas testing. When the crowd of unhappy residents allegedly committed acts of vandalism, the police responded by spraying them with tear gas.
