“We have to take the jobs away from other countries that are making our product, they’re taking our money, and they are in fact taking our jobs,” Trump said.

The last two weeks have shaken up the Republican presidential race, with Governor Rick Perry (R-TX), Governor Jeb Bush (R-FL), and Donald Trump jumping in. Meanwhile, on the Democratic side of the aisle, presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton has been losing ground to socialist Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VA) amid her campaign relaunch.
As a general matter, I agree (as did Ronald Reagan) that free trade is good for America; when we open up foreign markets, it helps American farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers.
GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) posted on Twitter Monday: “What happened to @RepMarkMeadows is shameful. No one should be punished for voting his or her conscience.”
GOP presidential candidate and businessman Donald Trump is warning the Senate against passing Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) on Tuesday.

Meadows decided to vote against House leadership on the Rule vote, prior to the final vote on Trade Promotion Authority – which grant’s President Obama fast track trade authority – because he felt the legislation was riddled with holes. In reference to Kinzinger also claiming it isn’t a “secret deal” – that’s also untrue. TiSA and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) – two of Obama’s trade deals – have not been made public and even members of Congress can’t read them yet. Furthermore, TPP is being kept in a secured room for only House and Senate members to review – again not allowing public access.
“I always like to preface all of this with, I’m a free trader, I’m for selling American products everywhere,” said Perry. “I’m a very strong proponent of economic development and trade. America can compete with anybody in the world…you give us a level playing field, and American workers will compete anywhere in the world. And we make good products, and our agricultural products are the best in the world.”
To engage in the complicated procedural chicanery needed to revive the once-dead Obamatrade, bringing its Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) portion back to life, Ryan needed to gut a previous bill that has passed the House and Senate and then insert Obamatrade into it. It’s actually a very similar process to how Obamacare passed the House.
In the final hours before the House votes on a new leadership-concocted scheme to sneak Obamatrade past the American public, it’s been revealed that pro-Obamatrade forces are now aiming to sneak a renewal of the highly controversial Export Import Bank into the deal to secure Senate passage later if the House passes it on Thursday.
Former Senator Jim DeMint, now President of the Heritage Foundation, compare’s the current trade deal considered by Congress with a bill he voted for in the Senate, concluding: “today’s version of fast track authority has become a legislative vehicle for those who favor protectionism and favoritism above freedom and opportunity.”
House Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) joined NPR Wednesday with Steve Inskeep to stress why he says it’s important for Congress to pass Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), which grants President Obama fast-track trade authority. With TPA, Congress cannot issue any amendments to trade agreements and merely gets an up or down vote on a final trade deal.
“I love my company, I love but what I’m doing, but the country is going to hell and we have people that are grossly incompetent—they’re just incompetent—and it’s time that we get a businessman,” Doland Trump says, in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News.
According to Public Citizen, a non-profit organization, President Obama’s Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) would drastically extend President Bill Clinton’s North American Trade Agreement (NAFTA) from 1994 – which has been widely criticized for costing millions of Americans their jobs.
So, with all that said, 86 Republicans voted for a tax increase–and to violate Norquist’s pledge–when they voted for TAA last Friday. If they do it again on Tuesday, they’ll be violating it again–and of course if any other Republicans vote for TAA on Tuesday, if there is a vote, they’d be voting to violate Norquist’s pledge as well.
Rep. Rene Ellmers insists she suppoorts trade deals, even if she doesn’t understand them. “I will tell you I’m not sure exactly the process, but the fact of the matter is if we don’t have the trade promotion authority, we literally give up our ability to have that oversight and that final say,” she told a radio interviewer.
Buck’s statement comes after Breitbart News reported on the way the controversial Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program is now being funded, using a tax hike on small businesses instead of Medicare cuts, as the Senate had proposed.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is calling on Republicans in the House—and the grassroots nationwide—to oppose efforts by House Ways and Means Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) to revive Obamatrade via a tax increase hidden inside the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) portion of the deal.
“I will wait and see what the deal is, and then I will tell you what I think about it,” Hillary Clinton added.
The House of Representatives is reportedly taking a vote on TAA on Tuesday since it failed to pass Friday, placing TPA on hold for the time being.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) has been arguing that Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) – also referred to as fast-track trade authority – would give Congress more power over President Obama’s highly secretive trade agreements, including the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) and the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA). However, Summers argued in his op-ed that if Obama isn’t given fast track and his trade agreements aren’t passed, the president would actually lose power over international negotiations.
The op-ed’s authors state that they are already promoting the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) abroad. “In speaking about these agreements, we often use the word ‘values,’” they write. “We promote transparency, public participation, accountability and the rule of law, and we advocate for our host countries to join us in setting the global standard.”
Establishment Republicans desperately trying to secure the passage of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), which would give President Obama fast-track authority to secure congressional approval of at least three secretive trade deals, are now willing to increase taxes on small businesses in a way that would violate a pledge almost every Republican Congressman has taken when elected into office.
“The president should listen to and work with his allies in Congress, starting with Nancy Pelosi, who had expressed their concerns about the impact that a weak agreement would have on our workers to make sure we get the best strongest deal possible,” Clinton said. “And if we don’t get it, there should be no deal.”

“The secretive, hugely impacting Obamatrade deal is another behind-closed-doors fast-tracked D.C. deal that screams “don’t pass it ’til we know what’s in it!” Yet politicians are going along to get along, supporting Obama’s pet project while ignoring the public’s right to know what’s in this monumental international trade deal. This, despite the President’s track record proving he hasn’t got it in him to put American workers first,” Palin posted.
Obama goes through the motions when it comes to his fundamental responsibilities as the leader of the free world, so that he can focus his energy instead on the three “R’s”–redistribution, race, and recreation.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), a 2016 Republican presidential candidate, defended his decision to vote for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that would fast-track the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) and Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA)—among other deals—during a Thursday interview with the Hugh Hewitt radio program.
Rep. Russell found himself on the front lines questioning the twisted logic House Republican leadership—particularly Ryan—have put forward to push Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) to fast-track the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) and Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA), among other highly secretive trade deals.

According to White House officials, Obama is engaged with members of both parties to pull the trade agreement across the finish line on Friday.
