Biden Signs Election-Year Deal to Close Panama’s Darien Gap Migrant Pathway

One of the most dangerous obstacles for migrants hoping to enter the United States at the southern border may be closing after an election-year agreement between Panama and the Biden administration. On Monday, the White House announced an agreement between the two governments to significantly reduce crossings through Panama’s Darien Gap, potentially closing the pathway to scores of migrants headed to the United States’ southern border in search of asylum.

Texas Man Sentenced to 60 Years for Killing 8 Migrants near Border

A Texas jury sentenced George Alvarez, the driver who lost control of his vehicle, killing the migrants outside a homeless shelter in May 2023, to 60 years in prison. Alvarez learned his fate on Friday after deliberations concluded on the eight counts of intoxication manslaughter. Barely one year passed since the eight migrants were killed during an early morning car crash in the border town of Brownsville, Texas.

14 Migrant Bodies Recovered near Border in December, 240 More Rescued

As the Biden administration’s border crisis continues in record-shattering numbers, Border Patrol agents must also deal with migrant deaths and rescues. Thus far in December, agents recovered the bodies of 14 migrants who died while or shortly after crossing the border from Mexico into the U.S. Another 240 migrants were rescued from life-threatening circumstances by Border Patrol agents, according to a Border Patrol report.

5-Year-Old Migrant Dies in Chicago Shelter, Others Hospitalized

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson offered condolences to the family of a five-year-old migrant child who died of an unknown illness over the weekend at a city-operated migrant shelter. The child, Jean Carlos Martinez-Rivero, was a new arrival at a converted warehouse known as the Pilsen Shelter, which was used to house migrants.

REP. GONZALES: Deaths at Border Reason Enough to Impeach Mayorkas

U.S. Representative Tony Gonzales (R-TX) voiced his support for the latest attempt by Congress to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Gonzales cited the deaths of innocent American bystanders caused by the border crisis as one reason he supports the measure. Gonzales addressed the issue with Breitbart Texas saying, “From restricting ICE’s deportation authorities to exploiting the parole program, he will stop at nothing to get around our immigration laws.”
