Migrant Caravans

Another large migrant caravan departed from southern Mexico with the goal of entering the U.S. before President-elect Donald J. Trump’s inauguration on January 20. The migrants will likely make their way to Mexico City before breaking up and heading for various U.S. border crossing points.

Mexican authorities are escorting more than 3,000 migrants who began trekking their way north as part of a new migrant caravan, with each of the participants having the ultimate goal of reaching the U.S. border and requesting asylum or some other form of protected status.

Preparations are underway for a new migrant caravan to depart southern Mexico this weekend. While the caravan targets Mexico City, the ultimate goal of the migrants taking part is the U.S. border, where most are expected to ask for asylum or some other kind of protected status.

Mexico’s government provided buses and trucks to several hundred migrants who have been trekking through Mexico for over a month. The migrant caravan’s destination is Mexico’s northern border.

One of the cartel gunmen allegedly killed by Mexican Army soldiers after surrendering in a city near the Texas-Mexico border was a migrant from Honduras. The migrant reportedly traveled in one of the caravans of 2019 and then joined the ranks of organized crime.

Activists and Syrian migrants in Turkey are making attempts to form a massive caravan of illegals to cross into the EU illegally.

Mexico’s government issued approximately 3,000 travel permits to members of a migrant caravan that arrived over the weekend in Chiapas. Rather than trying to stop the group, authorities issued permits and allowed them to continue north in a fragmented manner.

Authorities in Guatemala claim to have stopped the first migrant caravan of 2022. The efforts to contain the group led to a violent clash with dozens of detentions and 15 law enforcement officials sustaining a variety of injuries.
