Report: LA Lifeguards Cashed In, Making Up to $500k in 2021

According to a recent report titled, “Baywatch on Pay Watch,” a watchdog group known as Open the Books reveals that the highest-paid lifeguard in Los Angeles County made $510,283 in 2021. This particular lifeguard, a captain, reportedly made a sizable chunk of this money in overtime.

Miles of SoCal Beach Closed Due to Mysterious Globs of Oil

Strange black blobs of tar-like goo surged on onto southern California’s Manhattan Beach by the thousands, closing down the two-mile area Wednesday while the U.S. Coast Guard and National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration are investigating the source and substance.

Strong rip currents proved too powerful for 10 T-shirt wearing beachgoers in Newport Beach waters this Memorial Day as they slipped out to sea–rescued only by a team of watchful lifeguards.

Sea Lion Drags Fisherman Overboard

“We’re starting to see the behavior here on the dock with the seals a little more aggressive than normally,” said local Erik Kopp after seeing a man hauled off in a stretcher from San Diego’s Mission Bay Channel Sunday afternoon. The man was holding a fish in his hand when a sea lion jumped up and bit the fish and the man’s hand, dragging the man underwater as well.
