A raging Rep. Luis Gutierrez used his time testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday to furiously denounce the Center for Immigration Studies’ Jessica Vaughan, after she quoting him as saying death of Kathryn Steinle was “a little thing.”

“Whenever an innocent person is lost to violence, as a society we should consider what steps we can take to make our communities safer. Moving forward, we believe San Francisco and the Departments of Homeland Security and Justice should improve communication to ensure all interests are weighed in future cases,” the two California lawmakers wrote in a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
Introduced by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), the Sanctuary Cities legislation came to the floor in response to the outcry over the murder of Kathryn Steinle earlier this year. The bill passed 241-179 Thursday afternoon.

“Our family realizes the complexities of immigration laws, however, we feel strongly that some legislation should be discussed, enacted and/or changed to take these undocumented immigrant felons off our streets for good,” Steinle testified before a House subcommittee Thursday.
