President Donald Trump signed an emergency disaster declaration for Texas as Hurricane Harvey made landfall Friday night in Rockport, Texas. “At the request of the Governor of Texas, I have signed the Disaster Proclamation, which unleashes the full force of government help!” President Trump Tweeted Friday night. His signature opens the door for federal resources and manpower to come to the assistance of Texas as officials begin the work of recovering from the storm while devastating rains and winds continue.

Hurricane Harvey: Texas Mayor Says Get Out or Mark ID on Your Arm

The mayor pro tem of Rockport, Texas, told residents of the city where Hurricane Harvey is expected to make landfall Friday night to get out while they can or mark their id on their arms in preparation for the worst. Rockport Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Rios told a KIII reporter that people who chose not to heed the mandatory evacuation order should make that sure they have their social security number marked on their arm in case identification is needed.

Hurricane Harvey May Leave Parts of Texas ‘Uninhabitable for Weeks or Months,’ Say Feds

HOUSTON, TX — Parts of Texas may become inhabitable for weeks or months according to a Friday morning statement from the National Weather Service. Hurricane-force winds and torrential rains expected to last for five days or more could cause parts of the Lone Star State to become unhabitable due to structure damage, lack of utilities and safe drinking water, and major flooding conditions, the National Weather Service wrote in an advisory late on Friday morning. Hurricane Harvey is expected to cross the Texas shoreline late Friday evening or early Saturday morning–a major and potentially catastrophic Category 3 storm.

President Trump Plans Response to Dangerous Hurricane with Texas Governor
