Texas Governor Deploys State Police to Combat Houston Road Rage Spike

HOUSTON, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott announced the deployment of Department of Public Safety troopers to help the Houston Police Department combat the surge of road-rage shootings in the city. The governor is ordering marked and unmarked DPS vehicles to patrol hot spots defined by city officials, following a 33 percent increase in road-rage related shootings.

Houston Police Sergeant Shot, Killed While Driving to Work

HOUSTON, Texas — An as-yet-unidentified gunman shot and killed a Houston police sergeant as he drove to work on the city’s north side Monday afternoon. This marks the second fatal shooting of a Houston police sergeant in the past three weeks, third in 2020, and the fourth line-of-duty Houston police officer death in the past 12 months.

Houston Police Department Robbery Division detectives are searching for two suspects who allegedly shot a man during an armed robbery. One of the men can be seen in security camera videos shooting the victim in the thigh while demanding the man turn over his bag. A second armed man can be seen taking the bag.

Illegal Immigrant Charged with Shooting at Texas Police Helicopters

HOUSTON, Texas — Houston Police Department investigators arrested an illegal immigrant on charges that he allegedly fired a handgun at police helicopters. The incident occurred as the man allegedly fired on police aircraft responding to the crash of a Houston Police Department helicopter that killed one officer and critically injured the pilot. An immigration judge ordered the illegal alien to be removed from the U.S. earlier this year.

Four Houston Police Officers Shot, One Injured — Two in Critical Condition

HOUSTON, Texas — Four Houston Police Department officers were shot while executing a narcotics search warrant on Monday afternoon. A fifth officer sustained a knee injury during the exchange of gunfire with the suspects. Two officers are in critical but stable condition. Two officers are stable and the fifth officer is expected to be discharged soon. The two suspects were killed.

Gang Members Busted for Alleged Pharmacy Burglary, Say Texas Cops

HOUSTON, Texas — Five men who police say are well-documented gang members teamed up to allegedly burglarize a pharmacy located on the city’s southwest side. Houston Police Department officers say they caught the group leaving the area of the burglary and they were carrying tools commonly used for such jobs.

Texas K-9 Euthanized after Breaking Leg Pursuing Suspect

HOUSTON, Texas — A K-9 officer had to be put down after being injured while chasing a suspect in a stolen vehicle case. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said that K-9 Officer Rony, a 7-year veteran of the Houston Police Department, had nearly 250 apprehensions.

K-9 Rony had to be euthanized after breaking his leg in pursuit of a suspect.

Texas Sports Journalist Found Safe After Disappearance

HOUSTON, Texas — Police investigators reported that a local sports journalist who went missing on Sunday was found safe. Houston police tweeted a message early Monday saying they were probing the woman’s disappearance as a missing person’s case. Around 8:30 a.m., a second tweet announced officers found her safe.

Texas Man Decapitated His Mother, Knifed Father, Say Prosecutors

HOUSTON, Texas — Prosecutors with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office say a Houston man decapitated his mother and stabbed his father Sunday afternoon. Earlier this year, a court released the alleged attacker on bond after he reportedly punched his 76-year-old mother in the face.
