Republican House Passes NCLB Rewrite With Support From Nancy Pelosi, Liberal Groups

During floor speeches, Republican lawmakers claimed the bill “reduces the federal role” in education – even though it extends federal oversight of education to formally include pre-school instead of only grades K-12. They also say the measure would stop the federal government from coercing states to implement the Common Core standards – a point that is hotly debated by conservative activists who say the bill actually cements the Common Core further.

Rush Limbaugh: GOP Implosion Feared by ‘Establishment of Both Parties’

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said Friday the reason why the mainstream media is not visibly celebrating Kevin McCarthy’s decision to drop his bid for House Speaker and the ensuing Republican Party implosion is because the perception is that conservatives have won a victory over Washington insider establishment individuals like McCarthy.

House Passes Bill For Moratorium on Planned Parenthood Funding

Pro-Life Leaders Doubt Government Shutdown Would Harm Cause Against Planned Parenthood

Only one national pro-life leader is publicly taking the position that a bill to defund Planned Parenthood attached to must-pass legislation would be harmful to the pro-life cause. “[I] think Planned Parenthood is a vile organization, and I resent the fact that they get any tax money,” Tobias said. “But realistically, with President Obama in the White House holding that veto pen, I don’t know that any government shutdown could accomplish what we want. What we have to do is get a new pro-life president in, and we’d have a much better chance of actually taking away their money.”

135 House Republicans Demand Immediate Investigation of Planned Parenthood

As Americans express growing outrage over the gruesome content of recent undercover investigation videos of Planned Parenthood, 135 House Republicans have sent a formal request to United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch, demanding the Department of Justice (DOJ) immediately begin an investigation into the abortion industry giant’s practices of harvesting aborted baby body parts for sale to biomedical companies.

House Republican Leaders Cancel Vote To Fund Susan G. Komen – Major Donor to Planned Parenthood

The cancellation of the vote comes in the wake of an investigative video released Tuesday morning by pro-life group Center for Medical Progress which depicted Planned Parenthood’s chief medical officer speaking about how to abort a baby intact in order to be able to harvest its body parts for sale. Funding to the breast cancer group would likely have benefited Planned Parenthood, leading Heritage Action to object to a vote on it.

House Votes To Reauthorize No Child Left Behind

Many in the GOP reportedly refrained from voting until the last minute and some changed their votes under pressure from Republican leadership. Only one conservative amendment, introduced by Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ) was adopted, by a vote of 251-178, that would allow parents to opt their children out of standardized testing.

No Child Left Behind Rewrites in House and Senate Draw Intense Criticism From Grassroots

The House’s version of the redo, known as the Student Success Act (H.R. 5), was pulled from the House floor by GOP leadership in late February after it was determined the measure lacked sufficient support. Grassroots parents’ groups – many that have been fighting against the Common Core standards in their states – voiced their concerns that the Student Success Act still required excessive federal intrusion into the right of states to set their own education policies.

House Republicans Aim To Strip Planned Parenthood’s Funding

The House Appropriations Committee’s draft of its fiscal year 2016 Labor, Health and Human Services (LHHS) funding bill “eliminates all funding for the controversial Family Planning Program, saving taxpayers nearly $300 million.” The bill would also substantially cut so-called “comprehensive teen pregnancy prevention programs,” but double funding for abstinence-centered or Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) programs.

Pro-Life Campaign Urges House to Vote on 20-Week Abortion Bill on Anniversary of Gosnell Murder Conviction

With a Republican Senate in charge as of January of this year, national pro-life groups were confident of a swift passage of the Pain-Capable bill in the House once again, and likely approval by the Senate. On the eve of the March for Life in late January, however, bill was pulled from the House floor when GOP leadership caved to a group of Republicans led by Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC).

Rep. Renee Ellmers Calls Pro-Lifers ‘Abhorrent’ and ‘Childish’

Republican Rep. Renee Ellmers (NC) seems to be digging herself in deeper with the pro-life base of the GOP. On Friday, Ellmers—who led a group of House Republicans in January in a maneuver that torpedoed a late-term abortion ban on the eve of the March for Life—took to her blog to defend herself as she also referred to pro-life groups as “abhorrent” and “childish.”

House Freedom Caucus Founding Member: We Will Fight For Conservative Principles

The newly formed House Freedom Caucus will push back against soft Republican efforts to simply pass bills and instead will pursue a true conservative agenda, Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) tells Breitbart News. Fleming, one of the nine founding members of the House Freedom Caucus, argued that demonstrating what true conservatism looks like will serve to increase the ranks of conservatives in elected office.

Conservatives Launch House Freedom Caucus

A new caucus aimed at pushing “an agenda of limited, constitutional government” is up-and-running, launched by nine conservative members of the House of Representatives. “The House Freedom Caucus gives a voice to countless Americans who feel that Washington does not represent them,” the group’s mission statement reads.
