One of Mexico’s largest newspapers has outed a Mexican senator who is also one of the top gubernatorial candidates as having taken money from Mexico’s Gulf Cartel. REYNOSA, Tamaulipas — Tensions continue to rise between in this border city after the recent tragic events that led to cartel gunmen forcing a military vehicle to crash and kill four innocent bystanders–including a four-month-old baby. Since that fatal encounter, Mexican authorities and cartel forces have clashed in this border city, further escalating the fear by residents who don’t know when the next shootout could take place. While authorities have made various arrests, at least one soldier ended up getting injured during the violent gun battles.

Gulf Cartel Attack Kills a Baby and 3 Others at Taco Stand near Border

REYNOSA, Tamaulipas — An armored Mexican military truck that had been engaged in a firefight with Gulf cartel members was forced into a taco stand and crushed six bystanders. Four of the victims died during the crash, including a four-month-old baby. Witnesses say the Gulf cartel either used a grenade or shot the windshield out of the army truck to cause the deaths.

Tamaulipas Governor Minimizes Cartel Kidnappings, Calls Them ‘Rumors’

The Tamaulipas government continues to minimize the out-of-control wave of cartel crime and kidnappings that continues to plague this border region. In his most recent speech, Governor Egidio Torre Cantu dismissed the wave of cartel kidnappings that have caused mass panic in this area as being “rumors”. The speech took place during the most recent meeting of the Tamaulipas Coordination Group where Torre Cantu announced a new group made up of state and federal law enforcement officials aimed at tackling — kidnappings.

Two of Mexico’s cruelest criminal organizations ended up making a statement about not tolerating unsanctioned crime in their territories. While the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas have been fierce rivals for years, last week the two criminal organizations ended up placing narco-banners along with tortured criminals in separate cases. In the border city of Nuevo Laredo Los Zetas left the remains of five men while in this port city the Gulf Cartel left two naked and humiliated men tied up with the banner.
