U.S. Customs and Border Protection rushed out this month’s border apprehensions report amid the sudden decrease in migrant apprehensions. Migrant apprehensions by Border Patrol agents along the southwest border dropped 42 percent from December to January. However, the numbers are still 70 percent higher than in January 2021 — the month Joe Biden became president.
More than 1.17 million economic migrants have been allowed to sneak across President Joe Biden’s border, amid the millions of migrants who surrender to border guards, according to government data shared by the Federation of American Immigration Reform.
During an interview aired on Tuesday’s edition of MSNBC’s “Jose Diaz-Balart Reports,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas responded to questions on whether DHS knows where and who the more than 600,000 got-aways are by stating that the Biden administration increased
Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended nearly 7,000 migrants along the Texas border with Mexico last week. In addition, another 3,400 migrants got away without being apprehended.
U.S. Border Patrol officials estimate 72,000 migrants got away without being apprehended after they illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a source operating under the umbrella of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This adds to the 140,000 estimated got-aways during the first two months of the new fiscal year bringing the total to approximately 212,000.
Approximately 844,000 migrants were either apprehended after crossing the southwest border or were classified as “got-aways” during the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2023.
