California State, Federal Leaders Strike Bipartisan Water Deal

Outgoing California Governor Jerry Brown has reached a deal with U.S. House Republican leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) to extend the 2016 Water Infrastructure for Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, which would provide more water to farmers and fund water storage in the state, to 2021.

Dianne Feinstein’s Million-Acre Land Grab Falters

Three months after Breitbart News and others outed Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) backdoor effort to freeze development on over one million acres of California dessert by having President Obama declare the area subject to the Antiquities Act of 1906, her efforts are going down in flames as Congressional Republicans are moving to ban the Antiquities designation.

‘Strategic Repeal’ Ends North Texas City’s Fracking Ban

Governor Greg Abbott may have signed the legislation that rendered a highly publicized North Texas city’s fracking ban null and void, but its city council met to vote on a “strategic repeal” of the environmental lobby-backed ordinance that remained on the city’s books, one that is embroiled in lawsuits.

U.S. Natural Gas Price Collapsing after EPA Says Fracking Safe

The global shock from the release of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) long-postponed draft report stating that hydraulic fracturing (fracking) has not had a “widespread, systemic impact on drinking waste” caused “cheap” natural gas prices to collapse another 16 percent.

Kotkin: Jerry Brown is a Disaster–and California Business Elite Won’t Stop Him

Joel Kotkin, the noted liberal critic of California’s far-left government, says that Gov. Jerry Brown is leading California to ruin–and that the state’s business leaders share the blame by failing to speak out. In a new essay at the Daily Beast that summarizes much of his recent criticism, Kotkin says that while Brown’s father Pat brought the state progress and prosperity as governor (1959-1967), Jerry Brown “has waged a kind of Oedipal struggle against his father’s legacy.”

Desalinization Debate Forces Environmentalists to Face Reality

Desalinization has emerged as an answer to the state’s chronic water shortages. As the Orange County Register notes, desalinization would provide a near-infinite supply of water at only twice the price. The main objection of environmentalists is that desalinization uses up to 50% more electricity, meaning more fossil fuels might be burned to make water, setting back efforts to fight climate change. It is an objection that is looking less and less serious.

Jerry’s Folly: Turning California Brown to Appease the Greens

Instead of building dams, reservoirs and fighting to preserve every drop of water he can for Californians, Jerry Brown has chosen to waste his political capital on a train that no one wants, which California can’t afford–and he’s stealing people’s land and closing down businesses in order to do it. And now, finally in his fifth year as governor, he finally decides to act on the drought—and, in quintessential Jerry Brown style, he blames those who have nothing to do with creating the crisis and threatens to penalize them if they don’t comply.
