Texas National Guard Builds 2 Miles of Razor Wire Border Fencing near El Paso

While most families across the country celebrated the extended Christmas holiday weekend, members of the Texas National Guard built more than two miles of razor-wire border fencing near El Paso. Texas Governor Greg Abbott deployed the Guardsmen under Operation Lone Star to build the barriers after the City of El Paso declared a disaster as migrants surged across the border.

Migrants Spend Frigid Christmas Morning on El Paso Streets

Large groups of migrants woke up Christmas morning on the streets of El Paso as temperatures fell into the 20s. City officials placed buses near migrant encampments to serve as warming stations for those who either refused to go to shelters or were ineligible for federally funded shelters.

El Paso Mayor Declares Disaster over Migrant Border Surge, End of Title 42

The mayor of El Paso declared a disaster “due to a humanitarian, security, and economic crisis resulting from a mass migration” through the city. The declaration comes as thousands of migrants continue to cross from Mexico into the city in advance of the end of the Title 42 protocol expected on Wednesday.

El Paso Halts Migrant Buses to NYC, Chicago Until FEMA Sends Money

Despite a recent Biden Administration policy to reduce the number of Venezuelan migrant crossings along the southwest border, shelters and federal detention facility overcrowding is forcing the new arrivals onto El Paso’s streets. Those with the financial means to travel freely are sent to a downtown commercial bus depot. Meanwhile, local officials have paused dedicated buses to Chicago and New York City until federal reimbursements are met.

El Paso Officials Seek FEMA Funds amid Migrant Busing to NYC

A recent surge in migrant crossings has resulted in the Border Patrol’s El Paso Sector occupying the number two spot in nationwide migrant apprehensions, according to a source within CBP. The source says Border Patrol agents encountered nearly 25,000 migrants so far this month. U.S. Representative Tony Gonzales (R-TX) says the situation is only getting worse.
