China Celebrates Tiananmen Massacre as a ‘Political Vaccine’ Against Democracy

China’s state-run Global Times pushed ahead with the regime’s revisionism of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre on Friday by insisting what actually happened 32 years ago was not the brutal suppression of pro-democracy youth, but an expression of the “Chinese people’s confidence” in the glorious leadership of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Blackwell: Corrupt Politicians Act Destroys Right to Election Integrity Like Voter ID

Democrats’ push for the S. 1 / H.R. 1 Corrupt Politicians Act claims to be advancing voting rights, but ignores the foundational truth that every voter has the right to his legal vote not be canceled by someone else’s fraud, which is why the bill’s eradication of voter ID – an election integrity measure with strong bipartisan support – show this as a cynical power grab that principled senators must reject.

China Compares Hong Kong Protesters to January 6 Rioters

China’s state-run Global Times on Monday defended the prosecution of 47 pro-democracy activists and politicians in Hong Kong against a rising tide of global criticism, insisting the Hong Kong defendants are no different than the rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, so China is equally justified in cracking down on them.

Danan: Israeli Supreme Court Challenges Separation of Powers with Basic Law Case

While the imminent dissolution of Israel’s Knesset was keeping the country on tenterhooks Tuesday, another smaller, but arguably no less significant, development was taking place in its Supreme Court. For the first time ever, the court debated the legality of a Basic Law — essentially challenging its own constitution — in a move that has been denounced as the “quiet death of democracy.”

Over Half a Million Hong Kong Residents Vote in Pro-Democracy Primaries

Over 600,000 votes were cast in Hong Kong primary elections for pro-democracy candidates over the weekend, a turnout over three times as large as expected, given the climate of repression on the island after Beijing imposed a “national security” law that effectively criminalized political opposition. Organizers of the opposition primary hailed the turnout as a “miracle” of defiance.
