SPEAKER JOHNSON: Border is ‘Disaster of President’s Own Design’

U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, accompanied by a group of 64 other Republican legislators, visited the small Texas border city of Eagle Pass to receive a security briefing on the latest surge that saw more than 70,000 migrants cross the Rio Grande into the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector in December. Although the pace of migrant crossings has slowed in recent days, on Wednesday, Johnson made clear the responsibility for the record-breaking crossings at the border falls directly on the President’s failed policies.

Released Migrants Overwhelm Texas Border Town on New Year’s Day

With non-government migrant shelters at capacity and closed for the New Year’s Day holiday, the Border Patrol was forced to release migrants directly onto the streets of Eagle Pass. Most of the migrants huddled outside a local transportation company, hoping to make a quick exit from the small border city. The transportation hub is only a block from an official port of entry that has been closed for weeks due to the latest border surge hitting the small community of 30,000 residents.

Texas Border Wide Open as Sector Shutters Stations for Catch and Release

The overwhelming surge of migrants crossing the Rio Grande forced the busiest border sector in Texas to close Border Patrol stations so personnel may be reassigned to migrant processing and transportation duties. According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection source, the announcement came on Friday, ordering managers to cease operations at stations in Carrizo Springs, Comstock, Uvalde, and Brackettville, Texas.

With no signs of slowing, the latest migrant surge into Texas’ busiest border sector forced the agency to suspend operations at highway checkpoints. Border Patrol agents in the Del Rio Sector apprehended more than 3,000 migrants during a 24-hour period this week. The surge of migrants is overwhelming Border Patrol resources in the area, leading to the closure of an international crossing point and migrants being forced to camp out in the cold while they await transportation for processing.

Federal Appeals Court Orders Texas to Remove Border Buoy Barrier from Rio Grande

The floating border buoy installed by the State of Texas in the Rio Grande at Eagle Pass must be removed, according to a ruling by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday. The 2-1 ruling by the court affirmed the Biden administration’s Department of Justice argument that the buoys pose a threat to public safety and block navigation in the Rio Grande.

The migrant crossings in Eagle Pass, Texas, did not show any signs of slowing on Thanksgiving Day as a single group of more than 600 migrants entered the small border city in the early morning hours. Escaped Migrant Arrested in Texas for Possession of Firearm near Border

A Honduran migrant was arrested for the alleged possession of a firearm by the Eagle Pass Police Department but managed to escape shortly after that. The migrant reportedly climbed through the rear window of a police unit while handcuffed and fled from the scene of his arrest on Monday. Officers responded quickly to the escape and managed to recapture the migrant in short order.

After a brief slowdown in migrant crossings into the small border town of Eagle Pass, Texas, nearly 1,800 migrants were apprehended between Thursday evening and Friday afternoon, according to a source within CBP. Border Patrol agents assigned to the two stations located in the city responded to multiple large migrant groups crossing into the heart of downtown Eagle Pass and points farther south of the city.

According to a source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, nearly 1,800 migrants were apprehended entering the small Texas border town of Eagle Pass, Texas, on Monday. Nearly 1,400 migrants made landfall along the Rio Grande in the heart of the downtown area. The migrants were quickly moved to a Border Patrol processing facility that is already nearly five times over its capacity of 1,000 migrants.

Biden Admin Stops Legal Border Entries as Illegal Crossings Surge in Texas Town

Customs and Border Protection ordered the shutdown of one port of entry, the Eagle Pass International Bridge 1, and the second busiest international railway crossing in Texas. The closures were the response from the Biden administration to nearly 9,000 migrant crossings in the small Texas border town in five days. The port of entry closure resulted in a log jam of traffic for commuters on both sides of the border.
