The Senate passed a bill Tuesday by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) that would make Daylight Savings Time (DST) permanent across the nation, though a similar policy failed in the 1970s when it was mandated by embattled President Richard M. Nixon.
Sixteen states are already in the process of making Daylight Saving Time permanent, but a federal statute is needed to complete the process.

As of last week, both houses of the California legislature have now passed a bill that would allow voters to end Daylight Savings Time by referendum this November.

If this happens the law would take effect immediately upon being signed by Governor Greg Abbott.
