Texas Leaders Seek Investigation into Obama Admin’s Misrepresentation in Federal Court

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a motion for discovery on Thursday to investigate whether the Obama Administration misrepresented actions taken under President Obama’s executive orders granting amnesty to illegal immigrants. Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick quickly issued statements of support of the call for an investigation. The issue revolves around admissions by the Administration that tens of thousands of work permits have already been issued to illegal immigrants, a direct contradiction to facts presented in federal court.

150K Texas Students Trapped in Over 200 Failing Schools, says Lt. Governor

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick opened a press conference on education by saying that nearly 150,000 students were trapped in over two hundred schools that were failing their students and parents. His remarks came at the beginning of a conference that featured members of the Senate Education Committees and other Texas State Senators with education bills.

Texas Leaders ‘Confident’ Executive Amnesty Ruling Will Survive Appeal

In a joint press conference at the Texas Capitol on Wednesday, Senator Ted Cruz, Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, and Attorney General Ken Paxton addressed the recent temporary injunction imposed by a federal judge in Texas on President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty order. All four praised the decision by Judge Andrew Hanen of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, and said that they were “confident” the ruling would survive any appeals.

Thousands of School Choice Advocates Rally at Texas Capitol

Supporters of school choice gathered at the Texas Capitol on Friday to send a message to Legislators: they want education reform, and they want it now. A bustling, diverse crowd of students, parents, teachers, elected officials and other reform advocates — and even a marching band — enjoyed a festive atmosphere as they listened to speeches, sang and danced, and then lined up to enter the Capitol to take their message directly to their elected representatives. Texas Senate Tosses ‘Two Thirds’ Rule, Paving Way for Conservative Agenda

On Wednesday, the Texas Senate voted on mostly partisan lines to throw out a nearly 70 year old rule that made it easier for Democrats to block bills in the Republican controlled chamber. Under the “Two-Thirds Rule,” bills could not be brought up for debate without the votes of two-thirds of the Senators, or 21 out of the 31 Senators. Republicans currently have a 20 to 11 majority, leaving them still needing the vote of at least one Democrat to advance legislation.
