Cornell Introduces ‘BIPOC Rock Climbing’ Course

Cornell University is now offering a physical education course called “BIPOC Rock Climbing.” The Ivy League institution claims the class is: “designed to enable Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, or other people of color underrepresented in the sport of rock climbing to learn the sport and to feel included and supported.” “BIPOC” is an abbreviation of “black, Indigenous, and people of color.”

Report: 2 Cornell Students Removed from School Govt for Refusing to Disarm Police

Two members of the Cornell University student government were removed from their positions as part of a retaliation campaign after they refused to support an effort to disarm the campus police force, according to the students were removed and the Cornell College Republicans. The student assembly said their former peers were removed in response to the “emotional violence” they committed by voting against the disarmament resolution.

Cornell University announced this week that its faculty has voted to change the name of the English department as part of a broader campaign to eradicate “structural forms” of racism at the university. The department will now be referred to as the “department of literatures in English.”

Cornell University: No ‘Intellectual Justification’ for Caribbean Studies Minor

Cornell University has rejected a proposal to create a “Caribbean Studies” minor. Other universities, including Rutgers, Wesleyan, NYU, and the University of Michigan already offer a minor in Caribbean Studies. Cornell’s Africana Studies department chair Olúfẹ́mi Táíwò argues there is no “intellectual justification” to create a Caribbean Studies minor.

Cornell Announces that Campus Will Reopen to Protect Student’s Health

Cornell University has announced that it will reopen its campus to students this fall to benefit the health of students. Despite the decision by several major universities to keep their campuses closed for the fall semester, Cornell believes it is best for the health of its students to hold classes in person.
