Growth Rate of Student Loan Debt Doubles During Coronavirus Pandemic

The rate by which student loan debt grows has doubled since the Chinese coronavirus pandemic started, reaching record-high levels. Experian found that most of the new debt can be federal loan payment pause, a coronavirus relief measure that appears to have incentivized consumers not to pay off their existing debt while they borrow more money.

Amazon Sues to Block New York Warehouse Labor Investigation

E-commerce giant Amazon has filed a lawsuit against the New York state attorney general’s office in a move to prevent legal action over the company’s handling of coronavirus conditions at one of its Staten Island warehouses last year. The company wants to prevent the state from exercising “regulatory authority over workplace safety responses to COVID-19 and claims of retaliation against workers who protest working conditions.”

Baylor U. to Punish Students Who do Not Comply with Weekly Coronavirus Tests

Universities across the country say they will punish students who do not comply with new rules relating to the Chinese coronavirus. Baylor University in Waco, Texas, for example, is mandating that its students take weekly coronavirus tests, adding that those who fail to comply could have their Wi-Fi disabled, be blacklisted from participating in student organizations, or be suspended.

U. of Texas to Let Students Reject Grades from Fall and Spring Semesters

The University of Texas recently announced that students will be permitted to reject letter grades during the 2020-2021 academic year. Under the new policy, students will be able to replace their letter grades with either a “pass” or a “fail” grade. The policy was designed to accommodate students that have been burdened by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
