The Nigerian town of Chibok, which became world-famous nearly a year ago as Boko Haram terrorists kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls during a physics exam, has condemned a federal government attempt to rebuild the doomed school as little consolation in light of the government’s failure to locate and rescue the abducted girls.
In my years of working with victims of Boko Haram terrorism in northern Nigeria, I have never seen anyone like him. After the mass abduction of 276 Chibok schoolgirls, I have worked closely with about 20 who escaped, half of whom I have placed in US schools. Although it is now nine months since the April attack, not one of them escaped after that first week.
After a coordinated three-day rampage on the town of Baga in northeast Nigeria, as well 15-20 other nearby towns, up to 2000 resident civilians have been killed.
Boko Haram kidnapped at least forty boys in Malari village in northeast Borno State, Nigeria. The incident transpired on New Year’s Eve, but due to the town’s isolation, residents only reached the capital of Maiduguri to report it on Friday.
