Feds Warn of Cartel Money Laundering Scheme in South Texas

HARLINGEN, Texas — Mexican drug cartels have been buying and selling counterfeit goods at flea markets and small stores as a way to launder their drug proceeds, federal agents said. As Halloween celebrations approach, authorities are warning about certain counterfeit goods that could pose a health risk to unsuspecting customers.

Spanish Language Facebook Page Alerts Illegal Aliens to Police Checkpoints

A Spanish-speaking Facebook group is being used to alert 29,753 members of law enforcement checkpoints. Posts on the page claims it is alerting those “who don’t have a driver license and [to] report accidents” but it could also be used to avoid law enforcement for any criminal activity, including human, drug, and sex trafficking.

As the number of complaints of torture by Mexican authorities continue to increase and various human rights groups along with journalists continue to criticize that country’s governments over the methods used by authorities to get information out of cartel members, former soldiers and residents along the border appear to be in agreement with the tactics calling them a sort of retribution on their part.

Mexican Cartels Launder $10 Billion into US per Year, Says Financial Times

Over $10 Billion in illicit funds are laundered into the U.S. per year, according to a report in the Financial Times. As Breitbart Texas previously reported, the U.S. government recently enacted tough controls on banking institutions in an effort to stem the flow of Mexican cartels’ narco-profits through U.S. banks. Several large U.S.-based banking institutions recently began closing down branches near the U.S.-Mexico border in efforts to comply with the restrictions.

Armored Blackhawks Arrive at Texas Border

Armored Blackhawk helicopters have arrived at the Texas border with Mexico in response to the recent attack on a U.S. helicopter from Mexican soil. As Breitbart Texas first reported, a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) helicopter was participating in stopping a well-organized drug trafficking effort that involved individuals on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Shots were fired from the Mexican side on the CBP helicopter and it was forced down after sustaining damage.

Mexicans Making Easy Currency Exchange Profits Thanks to Drug Cartels

Mexican drug cartels, along with an untold number of global criminal and terrorist organizations, launder billions of dollars every year through banks and money service businesses. In order to curb this cartel activity, the Mexican government has severely limited the amount of American dollars that can be deposited into numbered accounts. A side effect of this policy, however, has been that Mexicans and travelers who pass through the country’s airports can quickly and easily profit from buying U.S. dollars at a loss, then selling them a few feet away for pesos at a roughly 3 percent profit.
