Human Smuggling Kidnappers Get Heavy Prison Sentence

A federal judge sentenced three men in Laredo to lengthy prison sentences for kidnapping and extorting eight illegal aliens they smuggled into the U.S. Prosecutors accused the men of assaulting the Mexican nationals while holding them captive and then attempting to coerce additional smuggling fees from the families of their human cargo.

A leftist environmentalist nonprofit and a Democrat Arizona congressman filed a lawsuit that could halt or slow construction of President Trump’s promised border wall. The group wants an impact to determine any harm caused to jaguars and Mexican gray wolves by a barrier and additional border agents.

Assaults on Border Patrol Agents Up 143 Percent

A report published this week reveals that assaults on U.S. Border Patrol agents during the first half of the current fiscal year are up 143 percent over the same period in FY 2016. Since the fiscal year began on October 1, 462 Border Patrol agents have been assaulted.

Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue (BORSTAR) agents rescued a Honduran migrant who suffered a gunshot wound while traveling through Mexico. The man managed to survive the injury long enough to struggle across the border where agents found him in the Arizona desert.

Border Apprehensions Down 61% Since Trump Took Office

A new report from U.S. Customs and Border Protection indicates a significant decrease in border apprehensions along the U.S./Mexico Border of more than 60 percent since the month President Donald Trump took office. Total apprehension for March declined from the previous month by 30 percent.
