Assaults on Border Patrol Agents Drop 17 Percent Over Last Year, Says Report

Assaults on Border Patrol agents fell by 17 percent this fiscal year when compared to the same period last year. This is the first time since 2014 where the numbers fell from one year to the next. The decrease appears to coincide with announcements from the Justice Department that assaults on Border Patrol agents will be aggressively prosecuted.

DOJ Charges Alleged Human Smugglers in Crash Deaths of 5 Migrants

The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas filed charges on Tuesday against five people allegedly involved in a human smuggling operation that left five illegal immigrants dead after one of their vehicles crashed an rolled over. The five suspected human smugglers could face up to life in prison or the death penalty for their alleged roles.

Human Smugglers Kill 5 Migrants in Texas Rollover Crash

A human smuggling operation involving at least three vehicles left five illegal immigrants dead after one of the cars crashed while attempting to flee Texas sheriff’s deputies and Border Patrol agents. Two of the vehicles stopped when approached by Border Patrol vehicles while the third fled the scene and eventually crashed.

Immigration agents teamed up with Border Patrol agents and Eagle Pass Police Department officer to remove 47 illegal immigrants from a stash house located near the Mexican border. The raid also resulted in the arrest of three U.S. citizens on charges of human smuggling.

Laredo Sector Agents Apprehend More Bangladeshi, Brazilian Migrants near Border

Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents arrested eight more Bangladeshi nationals after they illegally crossed the border into Texas. This brings the total number of Bangladeshi nationals arrested this fiscal year in the Laredo Sector alone to 322. Border Patrol Agents teamed up with local, state, and other federal law enforcement partners to shut down four human smuggling stash houses in South Texas. The raids over a two-day period resulted in the apprehension of 159 illegal immigrants.

May Arrests of Illegal Border Crossers Up 160 Percent

The apprehension of illegal immigrants along the southwest border with Mexico jumped 160 percent in May 2018 compared to the previous year. May apprehensions also increased by 1.9 percent over April 2018. The numbers increased each month this calendar year.

Border Patrol Agents Arrest Sex Offenders, Gang Members in South Texas

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Sector stopped sex offenders and gang members from making their way to their U.S. destinations over the weekend. During a four-day period, agents arrested four child molesters and three gang members after they illegally crossed the border. The arrests include fugitives who fled the country to avoid prosecution and previously deported criminal aliens.

Border Patrol Agents Disrupt Human Smuggling Stash Houses in Texas

Border Patrol agents along the Rio Grande River border with Mexico continue to disrupt human smuggling operations by shutting down stash houses. The smugglers frequently pack migrants into the houses with inadequate plumbing and kitchen facilities. Border Patrol officials previously called these “deplorable” conditions.
