Migrant Apprehensions So Far This Year Exceed Total Years for Last Decade

The number of migrants apprehended along the southwest border after illegally crossing the border so far this fiscal exceeded the total fiscal year totals for the past decade. Border Patrol officials stated. Officials stated that if the trend continues through the remaining four months of the year, the apprehensions will hit the highest numbers since 2006.

115 Migrants Held by Smugglers for Ransom Rescued in Ciudad Juárez

Mexican police in Ciudad Juárez rescued a group of 115 migrants being held against their will by human smugglers earlier this week. Police were tipped off to the incident by an anonymous report. The police raid resulted in the arrest of three human smugglers — one, a Central American migrant from El Salvador.

A Guatemalan man allegedly paid a family the equivalent of $130 to “rent” their eight-year-old son so that he could go to the U.S. as a “family,” federal prosecutors told a Tucson grand jury in March.
