Texas Paper Apologizes After Tweeting Cartoon of Governor on Fire in Wheelchair

The Austin American Statesman issued an apology after tweeting a cartoon of Texas Governor Greg Abbott with his pants in flames while sitting in his wheelchair. The cartoon was son Wednesday afternoon in connection with an opinion piece that was previously published in April, before the governor’s accident where he was severely burned.

#BlackLivesMatter Graffiti Hits University of Texas

Five different areas on the University of Texas at Austin (UT) campus were hit with graffiti bearing Blacks Lives Matter markings. The graffiti appeared after a Black Lives Matter activist shot himself on the steps of the Ohio statehouse, and after a 17-year-old black man was shot and killed during a confrontation with Austin Police officers on Monday.

A felony criminal district court judge in Travis County, Texas, was shot outside her home last night. Judge Julie Kocurek is also a former prosecutor. It is unknown whether the shooting is related to her duties as a criminal judge or prosecutor.
