UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones was arrested Thursday morning for driving while intoxicated and a gun charge, according to TMZ Sports.
Police responded to reports of shots being fired at 1 o’clock in the morning. Upon arriving at the scene, officers say they found Jones seated inside his vehicle with the engine running.
According to TMZ Sports:
Jon denied firing a gun — but officers say he appeared intoxicated (bloodshot, watery eyes and reeked of booze) and conducted a field sobriety test, which he allegedly bombed.
He also took a breathalyzer, twice, and registered over the legal limit both times. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, cops say they found a black handgun and a half-empty bottle of tequila behind the passenger seat.
He was arrested and booked for aggravated driving while intoxicated, negligent use of a deadly weapon and possession of an open container.
This is not Jones’ first brush with the law.
“In 2012, Jones avoided jail time on a misdemeanor DWI charge caused by running his Bentley into a utility pole in upstate New York,” USA Today reports. “In April 2015, he was involved in a hit-and-run that left a pregnant woman with a broken arm and resulted in him being stripped of his UFC title. He violated his probation terms from that case by drag racing a year later.”
