The XFL Draft is on as the new football league looks to pick up around 400 players out of 1,000 prospects this week.
Eight teams are looking to bring on about 50 players each with a 2019 Draft that will run through five phases.
The new league will first look to draft quarterbacks and skill-position players. Next comes a phase for offensive line players, followed by the defensive front seven phase, a phase for the defensive backfield, and then an open phase for the remaining players.
The league is also using a “snake” format, meaning that the selection order reverses after every round. The teams have 90 seconds for each pick.
The eight teams are vying for players. Including the Washington DC Defenders, the Houston Roughnecks, the New York Guardians, the Dallas Renegades, the Tampa Bay Vipers, the St. Louis BattlehHawks, the Seattle Dragons, and the Los Angeles Wildcats.
XFL players are set to make an average salary of $55,000 a season.
With Tuesday’s first three phases, 240 players were drafted.
