L.A. Lakers forward Moe Wagner says that he accidentally “liked” a tweet that was complimentary of George Zimmerman, the man who killed Trayvon Martin in 2012.
The 22-year-old, 2018 1st-round draft pick, caught criticism when people began noticing that his Twitter account had liked a post that basically justified Zimmerman’s shooting.
The tweet explained that Zimmerman only shot Martin because he was attacked by “a man who was bigger than him,” and who had “pounded his head into pavement mma style.”
“The black community [Zimmerman] had volunteered his time to help prior to the incident tried to ruin him,” added the Tweet Wagner liked, according to TMZ.
To be sure, Zimmerman was found not guilty of the murder of Trayvon Martin, but the incident is still a lightning rod for racial animus.
Wagner, though, says it was all a big mistake and he doesn’t know how his account had liked the tweet.
“I’d like to apologize and say I genuinely have no idea how that tweet was liked from my account,” Wagner tweeted.
“I would never purposely like something so terrible, and I’m sorry to anyone I hurt,” Wagner added.
