An Arkansas soccer game was shockingly interrupted on Saturday, when a light pole snapped and fell onto the field. Sending both a referee and player to the hospital, one with serious injuries.
The falling light pole crashed to the field during a high school game in Clarksville, Arkansas, and barely missed falling directly onto several players and the ref even as two were injured, the Daily Mail reported.
According to KFSM, a teen player suffered head and leg injuries, but the referee took the worse beating, breaking his leg in two places.
School officials say that high winds were responsible for toppling the pole.
One witness told the media that the falling pole sounded like an “explosion.”
“I mean as soon as we stepped out of the truck, there was a big ol’ explosion, and I thought maybe a tent had blown over,” parent Danielle Meyer said.
Meyer also noted that the winds were very high and that the goal posts were “swaying back and forth” buffeted by the winds.
Administrators have closed the filed while utility company workers and school officials investigate the broken pole to determine what happened and if other poles on the field are similarly damaged.
