The Washington Redskins said Wednesday that safety Montae Nicholson will sit out Sunday’s game, after a video surfaced showing him delivering a brutal and violent beat down to a man on Virginia street.
Nicholson is seen in the video attacking a man wearing a jeans jacket. The attack was so violent several people could not keep the player from the one-sided melee, TMZ reported.
Even as Nicholson’s friends try to hold him back, the video shows the 2017 fourth-round NFL Draft pick delivering several vicious punches to the unknown man, with one punch clearly knocking the man unconscious.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department arrived and arrested Nicholson after the attack on Tuesday, December 18. Nicholson was booked and later released on a $2,500 bond.
Nicholson’s female companion was also arrested that night.
According to witnesses, the argument started before the victims of the attack had pulled up in a car and honked at Nicholson. The honking and previous confrontation reportedly led to the fisticuffs.
Redskins coach Jay Gruden confirmed that Nicholson will be sitting out Sunday’s game but did not say if any other punishment will be meted out over the incident. Gruden only noted that the team is looking into the incident.
