Fans of Fortnite will soon be able to outfit their characters in NFL jerseys, after Epic Games cut a deal with professional football to bring the sports apparel to the popular game.
“We see the popularity of Fortnite every day at the NFL as many of our players are passionate about the game,” read a league statement by Brian Rolapp, chief media, and business officer for the NFL, according to ESPN.
The jerseys will be available for male and female characters, the league also noted. “That is actually very exciting for us, with the avatars being available as females and being able to have females in NFL uniforms for the first time,” Rachel Hoagland, the NFL’s vice president and head of gaming and ESports, added on Monday.
Fans can purchase up to eight different NFL team jerseys for their Fortnight characters, the NFL announced. Players may also choose any number from 1 to 99 for their official Fortnite NFL jersey. The skins will cost $15 each in real dollars.
One common feature of real-world jerseys will not carry over to the game; no name will appear on the backs of the Fortnite jerseys.
The NFL is not the only pro sports league to invest in the massive video game. Along with the NFL, the Washington Capitals and Wizards owner Ted Leonsis, Golden State Warriors co-owner Peter Guber, and Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan have also come on board.
