A Yahoo Sports writer was triggered by the fact that some NFL teams will start ‘unreliable’ quarterbacks this weekend, while still ignoring former San Francisco 49er and national anthem protester Colin Kaepernick.
In his October 31 Yahoo Sports op-ed, writer Chris Cwik was distraught over teams such as the Buffalo Bills, 49ers, and others, pursuing “unreliable quarterbacks instead of giving Colin Kaepernick a call.”
“Kaepernick has remained unsigned since taking a knee in 2016. Since then, a number of other quarterbacks have been brought in over the 30-year-old Kaepernick. It’s gotten to a point where Kaepernick has filed a grievance against the NFL, alleging the league has colluded to keep him from being signed,’ Cwik wrote.
The Yahoo columnist goes on to list all the “unreliable quarterbacks” that he feels are less able than Kaepernick including, Austin Davis, Mullens, Derek Anderson, Tom Savage, Matt Barkley, and Landry Jones.
Cwik then says that the whole group of above-mentioned QBs have a worse record than Kaepernick did all by himself in his last season.
“Combined, that group has thrown for 87 touchdowns against 84 interceptions in 79 career starts. The majority of that comes from Anderson, who has started 49 games and accounted for 60 touchdowns and 64 interceptions,” Cwik wrote. “Kaepernick, by comparison, has tossed 72 touchdowns against 30 interceptions in 58 starts.
“Some of those players will continue to see the field in Week 9. Kaepernick will continue to look for a job while his collusion case moves forward,” Cwik lamented.
However, Cwik seems to ignore that Kaepernick did get some interest from teams in 2017. The Ravens had direct contact with Kaepernick during the 2017 season. The Seahawks also scheduled a workout but later postponed it.
