Deadspin is confused as to why the pro-police Thin Blue Line flag, was included in a ceremony recognizing the victims of the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting.
The left-wind sports website published a piece telling visitors that the Penguins included the “Blue Lives Matter Flag… For Some Reason” in the team’s ceremony for the victims of the shooting. Apparently, the fact that three Pittsburgh police officers were shot during the attack on the synagogue does not constitute a sufficient reason for displaying the flag.
The Penguins opened Tuesday’s game with eleven seconds of silence for the 11 victims followed by an emotional performance of the national anthem. The players also donned patches on their uniforms that read “Stronger Than Hate.”
But Deadspin was critical of the banner they called a “Blue Lives Matter” flag being included in the recognition of last Saturday’s crime.
Writer Lauren Theisen scoffed at the flag saying there was a “pretty colossal miscalculation in the pregame ceremony itself by whomever allowed this ‘Blue Lives Matter’ flag to receive prominent placement at the ceremonial puck drop.”
Theisen writes:
For those who don’t know, “Blue Lives Matter” is an explicit reaction by law enforcement to the Black Lives Matter movement, which aims to end racial prejudice in policing. It’s a rallying cry used by some of the most empowered workers in America as propaganda against vulnerable people who are simply asking not to be killed or abused by state actors, and its endorsement by the Penguins is a gross slap in the face to some of their most marginalized fans.
The Deadspin author also took a shot at the Penguins and President Donald Trump, calling the team’s memorial to the fallen “completely insincere.” Because the team “pals around with a president who’s actively encouraged anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, and whose only solution to gun violence is ‘more guns.'”
So, count Deadspin as a snowflake triggered by the police flag at the Penguins game.
But, as Twitchy noted, many Twitter users were less triggered by the Penguins than they were by the idiotic Deadspin article:
