Arizona Cardinals President Michael Bidwill co-wrote a letter expressing his support for Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.
Shortly after President Trump announced Kavanaugh’s nomination during a televised appearance on Monday night, Bidwill posted a letter on the Cardinals website conveying his support for a “brilliant,” and “qualified’ candidate.
According to Darren Urban of the Cardinals official site, “The purpose of the letter is to talk about Brett as a person. We have known him and known what a brilliant mind he has. He’s eminently qualified.
“I think now that he’s been selected by the President, he will go through a thorough vetting process and as they go through that process they will learn about the great person we know. He is a man of high character, high intelligence, excellence and independence. We want to speak up and show our support as former classmates and long-time friends.”
The relationship between Bidwill and Kavanaugh stretches back to their high school days at Georgetown Prep, in Washington, DC. ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted the full letter which also contained the signature of Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman:
Bidwill stressed his personal relationship with Kavanaugh, and did not make a political endorsement.
Bidwill is not the first NFL executive to commend President Trump for a Supreme Court pick. In March of 2017, Broncos General Manager and Executive Vice President John Elway sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee praising then-recently nominated Colorado native Neil Gorsuch.
Kavanaugh will now prepare for confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
