Florida Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo addressed the issue of gun control prior to the Panthers game against the Washington Capitals, and his speech left no doubt about where he stands.
Luongo spoke as part of the Panthers tribute to the 17 victims of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Thursday night was the Panther’s first home game since the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The team had the ice decorated the ice with the names and faces of each of the victims.
Luongo told the crowd, “No child should ever have to go through that, it’s terrible. It’s time for us as a community to take action.
“It’s enough, enough is enough, we gotta take action.”
According to the Sporting News, “Luongo’s children attend school in Parkland, which is just 13 miles from the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla.”
Luongo closed his speech by saying, “Since last Wednesday I’ve been watching the news and I’ve been seeing what the kids from Douglas Stoneman (have been) doing and I am very, very proud of you guys. You guys are brave, you guys are an inspiration to all of us, and at the end of the day, you guys are what are giving us hope for the future.”
