President Trump once again set his sights on protesting NFL players, in a Thursday morning tweet.
As the NFL gets ready to begin its postseason play this upcoming weekend, Trump captioned a tweet of a woman and child on the ground, mourning near the grave of a soldier. In the caption, Trump wrote: “So beautiful…Show this picture to the NFL players who still kneel!”
The president has made his feelings toward anthem protesters well-known this year. In late September, at a political rally in Alabama, the president called protesting players “Sob’s,” and said he wished their team owners would fire them.
That speech sparked a backlash, as more than 200 NFL players, coaches, and executives protested during the anthem the following Sunday.
However, since that time, the number of protesting players has dwindled to the point that in Week 17, only a dozen players took part in some form of anthem demonstration.
