With the NFL on the verge of giving anthem-protesting players $100 million dollars to disperse to the leftist, radical organization of their choice. Signs that Colin Kaepernick has prevailed over the league with his protests abound.
However, signs of Kaepernick’s political win aren’t just showing up in NFL boardrooms, this Sunday, you’ll see it on the football field.
Tennessee’s Rishard Matthews has decided to honor Colin Kaepernick this weekend, by wearing cleats promoting Kaepernick’s “Know Your Rights” camp:
According to USA Today, “Players around the league will wear cleats supporting charity organizations this weekend as part of the NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” initiative. One of the goals of Kaepernick’s organization, “Know Your Rights Camp,” is to increase awareness about a variety of social issues, including higher education and self empowerment, according to its web site.”
Someone really needs to inform Rishard Matthews that not being on a football team is absolutely not, “the ultimate sacrifice.” The ultimate sacrifice, would be giving your life in the service of your country, city, or merely something larger than yourself. A concept that Matthews should be intimately familiar with, given that his half-brother, a Marine named Christopher Ruiz, died in Afghanistan in 2015.
Matthews is no stranger to the anthem controversy, in October, he tweeted and then deleted a tweet saying he would stop playing football if the NFL made a rule requiring players to stand for the anthem.
Since the NFL has steadfastly refused to make such a rule, Matthews has never had to back up that promise.
