Despite believing that he lives in a country that racially oppresses and brutalizes black people, Colin Kaepernick has neglected to pursue an opportunity to leave this hellscape, presumably for good money, and play football in Canada.
A team from the Canadian Football League (CFL) reports that they have offered the anthem protester a possible job in Montreal, but the player’s agent won’t respond to inquiries.
The Montreal Alouettes has been trying to reach the former San Francisco 49er quarterback, but Pro-Football Talk reported that a source close to Kaepernick says he isn’t interested in the offer.
Alouettes G.M. and interim head coach Kavis Reed, though, noted that the team has not tried to reach out to Kaepernick himself but has only notified the player’s agent of their interest.
“There’s been no conversation about Colin coming here,” Reed said on the CFL’s website on Thursday. “It was just to let them know we had his rights and if there was anything they were interested in to get back to us. There’s been no call back from his agent . . . that’s where it stands.”
Reed also noted that he and his team are aware that Kaepernick brings baggage with him.
“He’s in the midst of some very important things,” Reed said in the Montreal Gazette. “We understand there’s a movement going on around him. We’re doing our due diligence and making certain they know we want to see where he’s at. It’s a matter of kicking the tires at this stage.”
Reed added that he thinks Kaepernick is a “very good player.”
“Take all the movement stuff aside. He’s a young man that we feel has a very good football IQ,” Reed said. He has taken a team to a championship level. The talent’s there. As a GM, you have to look at the talent. It’s incumbent on us to explore it.”
