As America’s reigning pop princess, Taylor Swift has unsurprisingly landed a major football halftime show. Though, it’s not the one you’re likely thinking of.
Swift is one of the few major singing talents of her day who has not landed a Super Bowl halftime show, and it appears she won’t be breaking that trend anytime soon. However. she did just sign a contract to perform during the College Football National Championship game in January, according to the New York Daily News.
Swift is slated to perform at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, according to the report. The concert will also be free.
The “Look What You Made Me Do” singer has a contract with ESPN owner Disney and has already worked with the sports network. This halftime show contract further cements that relationship.
“ESPN has her booked for the (concert) and has a massive deal to release new music from (Swift’s next album) ‘Reputation’ through its college football coverage this season,” an insider at ESPN reportedly told Entertainment Tonight.
Why has Swift been so consistently locked out of the Super Bowl halftime show?
It appears to be because of her endorsement deal with Coca-Cola.
Even as Beyonce, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga have all appeared during the biggest football game in the business, the Coca Cola-sponsored Swift has been left off the list because Pepsi sponsors the Super Bowl.
So, while the 27-year-old pop star may be top of the charts, she won’t likely be appearing before the estimated 111.3 million viewers of the Super Bowl anytime soon.
Perhaps she can console herself with a five million-dollar TV ad during the next Super Bowl?
