A pair of million-dollar bets in favor of Floyd Mayweather has shaken up odds makers in Las Vegas just ahead of Saturday night’s fight.
The first big bet was recorded this week by William Hill’s Nevada sportsbook which reported a $1.2 million bet on Mayweather at -500 odds from a cash-paying gambler, ESPN reported.
By Thursday, MGM sportsbook reported it’s own million-dollar bet on Mayweather at -550 odds, waged by a casino guest who wired the money ahead of his bet.
Oddsmakers became alarmed that Mayweather had fallen below -500 last week, but as the week rolled on, the odds again climbed. Finally coming in at -600 by week’s end.
A slew of bets in the hundreds of thousands were also booked across Sin City.
The sheer number of bets still favors challenger McGregor, but the big money seems to be backing Mayweather.
Sportsbooks are reporting there is only one bet on Mayweather for every 12 bets on McGregor. Despite that, the average bet on McGregor is only $212 while the average bet on Mayweather is a whopping $8,036.
Whoever ultimately wins at the final bell, it is already clear that the fight will go down in history as the most heavily wagered ever. The previous record holder is the estimated $60 million bet on the 2015 Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao bout.
