Boca Raton police arrested former CBS Sports radio host and NBA reporter Ethan Skolnick, charging him with “battery on a person 65 years of age or older,” after he allegedly assaulted his father.

The incident occurred shortly after police were called to Skolnick’s parents home, by his estranged wife. According to the Miami Herald, Skolnick believed his parents were involved in summoning the police, prompting him to assault his father after the police left. Skolnick punched his father, bloodied his nose, and tore his shirt.

Shelly Skolnick said her son “went nuts” and tried to stop him. “He beat him up,” she told police.

The Herald further reported, “Louis Skolnick told police that his son had punched him on the left side of his face and his left arm, though he said a bruise that was visible on his arm had resulted from Skolnick punching him a week ago.”

Skolnick was taken from Shelly and Louis’ home and booked into Palm Beach County Jail. Thursday morning Skolnick appeared before a judge and was instructed to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Louis Skolnick told Judge Dina Keever-Agrama at the hearing that he was not afraid of Ethan.

The Herald reported Skolnick worked as an NBA writer for CBS Sports and hosted “The Ethan Skolnick Show” on 790 The Ticket. As of July 31, Skolnick was no longer employed by the network, but no reason was given as to why he left.

During the 2015-2016 season, the Miami Herald employed Skolnick to cover the Miami Heat. He had prior sports writing jobs at the Herald, the Sun Sentinel, the Palm Beach Post and Bleacher Report.
