A raft of liberal sports columnists continue to remind readers that anti-American protester Colin Kaepernick is still sitting on the NFL’s sideline without a team. But now, Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt is saying he would have “no hesitation” in hiring Kaepernick if his team needed a quarterback.
The Chiefs’ starter just happens to be Alex Smith, the same quarterback who lost his job to Kaepernick with the San Francisco 49ers in 2012 before he was traded to the Chiefs in 2013.
Because of that delicate situation, Hunt doesn’t feel that Chiefs coach Andy Reid would ever suggest Kaepernick, according to USA Today.
“You know, I really wouldn’t [hesitate to hire Kaepernick],” Hunt said. “Obviously, we have an interesting dynamic in regards to Colin in that we have Alex Smith as our starter. Because of that, I wouldn’t anticipate that Andy would come to me with that.”
Hunt went on to say that he wouldn’t tell a head coach not to bring on any player that would be an asset to the team.
But, Hunt agreed that sometimes players are just trouble.
“Now there are certain circumstances where guys get in trouble off the field, and that is something as an organization, and as a family, we care about. We’re not going to bring those types of players in,” Hunt said.
Still, he said Kaepernick shouldn’t be one of those problems. “In terms of a player like Colin, I would have no hesitation bringing him into the organization,” Hunt said.
Of course, Hunt is attempting to have his social justice cake, and eat it too, with his comments. He can stand there getting credit from the social justice warriors by making his pronouncements that he would have no problem hiring the Black Lives Matter supporter, all the while knowing that he not only doesn’t have an opening for Kaepernick anyway but that his coach and players would never suggest hiring Kaepernick in the first place.
Hunt’s comments are a pretty cynical ploy to pander to the left.
