Jerry Jones has conducted his investigation of the domestic violence allegation against his running back Ezekiel Elliott, and he is not impressed.
While speaking at the Dallas Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, California, team owner and General Manager Jerry Jones took Elliott’s back, claiming there’s no evidence Elliott engaged in any domestic violence.
“I have reviewed everything, and there is absolutely nothing—not one thing—that had anything to do with domestic violence,” Jones said.
Despite Jones’ firm proclamations of Elliott’s innocence when it comes to domestic violence, Jones would not comment on whether Elliott will face suspension from the league under the personal conduct policy. According to league rules, a player doesn’t have to be convicted or even charged with a crime in order to receive punishment under the policy.
Jones said, “My opinion is there’s not even an issue over he-said, she-said. There’s not even an issue there.” According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Elliott does believe the league will issue “a short suspension.”
The allegation against Elliott comes from an incident last July, in Columbus, Ohio.
Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett summed up how Dallas views Ezekiel Elliott on and off the field, “I think Zeke’s a smart guy. Zeke understands what we’re talking about. Zeke understands what the standards are for our football team. I think he understands what he needs to do to reach those standards on and off the football field. We’ll continue to work with him, just like we will with all our players.”
