NFL: Darrelle Revis won't get punished for arrest

May 22 (UPI) — Veteran cornerback Darrelle Revis won’t be punished regarding his February arrest, but he still needs to find an NFL team before playing in 2017.

An NFL spokesman said that the cornerback will not “face league discipline” associated with the incident, which happened in Pittsburgh, according to NFL.com.

The New York Jets released Revis in March. A judge dismissed all five charges against the former All-Pro in March. He was initially charged with four felonies and a misdemeanor stemming from the incident which left two men unconscious. Revis turned himself into police.

Revis’ friend later took responsibility for the charges, according to the New York Post. Rashawn Bolton admitted in his testimony that he was the one that knocked out the two men during the confrontation, according to the New York Times.

The 31-year-old hasn’t earned much interest as a free agent. He is still owed $6 million by the Jets. The 10-year veteran began his career with the franchise after being picked No. 14 overall in the 2007 NFL Draft out of Pittsburgh. The four-time All-Pro was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013 and signed with the New England Patriots in 2014, where he won a Super Bowl. Revis returned to the Jets in 2015. He showed significant signs of regression last season, but is willing to move to safety.

An NFL head coach, team executive, personnel director and a scout told ESPN that there is “no market” for the cornerback and there are “whispers about his commitment.”

In March, league sources told CBS Sports that if Revis plays next season it will be for the Patriots. CSN New England later reported that the Patriots and Revis had not discussed a deal.

In 2015, Revis received the lowest grade of his career from Pro Football Focus. PFF ranked him as its No. 64 cornerback in 2016. He ranked No. 3 in 2014. Revis’ 922 snaps led the Jets’ secondary last season. Opposing quarterbacks had a 104.2 passer rating while targeting the former star defender in 2016, compared to a 60.4 rating before last season. The Jets ranked as PFF’s No. 23 secondary.
