After the New York Giants 38-13 playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers, reports say that Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. became so infuriated that he banged his head against a door and punched holes in the walls of Green Bay’s Lambeau Field visiting locker room.
Wisconsin grounds crew members reportedly saw the Giants wide receiver indulging the tantrum, according to ESPN.
The grounds crew heard noises coming from near the interview room where the player had only minutes before spoken to the media. When they moved to investigate, they saw Beckham standing next to a hole in the room’s drywall.
Witnesses then said that Beckham walked over to a doorway outside the locker room used by the Giants and slammed his head into the door. NFL security said it is investigating the incident. The Giants said they won’t comment.
By all accounts Beckham seemed calm during postgame interviews, but witnesses have seen the second-team All-Pro receiver banging his head against something after a tough loss before, such as following the Giants loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on December 22 at Lincoln Financial Field:
Giants quarterback Eli Manning explained Beckham’s emotional outburst as that of an “emotional guy.”
“Odell is an emotional guy. He was disappointed,” Manning said. “I saw him with his head down and disappointed. There are a lot of guys that will shed a tear or two. When you lose a playoff game — and for a lot of guys it’s their first time in the playoffs — to kind of have the season abruptly end like that is a shock. Everyone handles it differently.”
Whatever his emotional state, many feel Beckham underperformed during the Giants playoffs loss. His 28-yard performance is tied for the second-fewest receiving yards of his pro career. Beckham also dropped two passes, one of which would have resulted in a touchdown.
