The point has almost arrived where Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor talking about fighting each other has become more entertaining than Mayweather and McGregor actually fighting each other.
The Christmas season of good cheer and good will towards men offered no respite in the war of words between McGregor and Mayweather. McGregor fired this shot on Christmas Eve:
Never in the annals of sports has so much hype gone into something that will probably never happen. I must insert the “probably” qualifier because McGregor did get his boxing license in California, though even that development seems suspect since Mayweather doesn’t fight in California.
At the end of the day, Mayweather and McGregor made their names fighting in two completely different arenas of combat. How would they even fight? One round of boxing, then one round of MMA? Given the dominance of each fighter, whoever got to fight in their discipline in the first round would have a massive advantage.
Would Floyd put his highly treasured undefeated record on the line in a round where he might have to defend an ankle lock or an arm bar? Highly unlikely. So, tweets promising the breaking of each other’s face are probably the closest we’ll ever get to the actual breaking of faces.
