CHASKA, Minn. — The U.S. leads Europe 9.5 to 6.5 and is well positioned to win their first Ryder Cup since 2008. The lineup for the Sunday singles are as follows with picks and analysis:
Patrick Reed vs. Rory McIlroy—Reed has been on fire but will run into a buzz saw. I will be out following this group and with my 250lb cameraman we’ll do some crowd policing as well. I will consider myself Curtis Sliwa and Hazeltine a New York subway.
Jordan Spieth vs. Henrik Stenson—Has anyone ever seen Spieth and C3PO in the same room? Stenson should beat Spieth because he’s playing better golf at this time but I think Spieth will dig deep and pull out a victory.
J.B. Holmes vs Thomas Pieters—Belgian Thomas Pieters hasn’t waffled during this Ryder Cup going 3-1 as a rookie. He will continue his run with a decisive victory over Holmes.
Rickie Fowler vs. Justin Rose—Fowler has a knack for the dramatic but the steady Rose will wear him down and win a close one.
Jimmy Walker vs. Rafa Cabrera Bello—Two guys playing some good golf. Let’s call this one a tie.
Phil Mickelson vs. Sergio Garcia—How much fun will this matchup be? Answer: lots of fun. Phil gets it done feeding off the crowd.
Ryan Moore vs. Lee Westwood—Two guys that haven’t been playing well, especially Westwood. He missed two short putts on 17 and 18 Saturday to gift a point to the Americans. He is resilient though and gets the point here.
Brandt Snedeker vs. Andy Sullivan—Snedeker has putted very well and Sullivan will be lacking some confidence after being sat down all day Saturday. Snedeker easily.
Dustin Johnson vs. Chris Wood—DJ has not been all that pumped up this week. He seems indifferent. He still has way too much talent to lose to Chris Wood.
Brooks Koepka vs Danny Willett—Masters winner Willett will figure out a way to edge Koepka who has been playing well.
Matt Kuchar vs. Martin Kaymer—Kaymer shows up in big moments and Kuchar doesn’t. Kaymer handily.
Zach Johnson vs. Matthew Fitzpatrick—Zach has entirely too much guile and savvy to lose and anchor match in the Ryder Cup. This will also clinch the Ryder Cup for America.
